“One of the things that makes a project successful
is when you feel where you are, whether it’s in the woods, the city or by the sea”
— Jeroen van Zwetselaar
The founder of eponymous Studio Jeroen van Zwetselaar works on interior and architectural projects all over the world. His ability to establish a rapport with a building, intuitively knowing what it needs, creates places that breathe a holistic connectedness, making them feel like they were always meant to be exactly so. The attraction to contrasts, mixing the historical with the contemporary as well as movement with stillness are reflected in all designs. His use of earthly colours, natural materials and organic forms make Jeroen’s creations refreshingly peculiar and distinctly personal and at the same time feel completely natural and exactly right. This is established not only by listening to a building, but also by the impeccable integration of its surroundings, and most importantly, by focussing on each client’s idiosyncratic self, resulting in creations that exude individual identity and make you feel entirely immersed in a place.
Jeroen in words
Just as in painting, – another one of Jeroen’s passions, inherited from his mother – where only a few distinct lines can be enough to suggest a certain shape, Jeroen searches for the essence of a building by zooming out. Whether it’s an old church, a farm or a notary house, he will accentuate its authentic archetypal details while at the same time creating something completely new.
But it doesn’t stop at the structural level of a project. Being an all-round designer, Jeroen’s ideas flow through at every level. The interiors he creates dance to the rhythm of the architecture and simultaneously carry a certain playful unpredictability. By allowing all facets of a design to communicate with one another – from the architecture to the accessories and the art – something personal is created, and not just another decor. Clients genuinely recognise themselves in the final result, and feel like they are coming home to themselves.
It all started in 2012, when Jeroen van Zwetselaar found a jewel of an old railway house dating back to 1867 and decided to turn it into his own dream home. This prodigious project brought him worldwide fame and became the starting point for Studio Jeroen van Zwetselaar, where he works together with his team of interior and exterior designers, architects, craftsmen and creators. Since its inception, Studio Jeroen van Zwetselaar has grown and expanded its range of products to include interior design, styling, product design and fine art, as well as architecture.
