Riverside Villa Heemstede

The house was build in the 1900 but in the decades after various additions and alterations has changed the house over time. But since the 70’s not much has happened to the house so it was an amazing opportunity to bring back original details while bringing it to modern day standards. The house had so many alterations over the years it was a challenge to bring back the character of the house which had been lost. This challenge was right up the alley of JEROEN VAN ZWETSELAAR as one of the most important point of designing is to create a place where the client can come home too. Bringing back the architype of the house and add a modern extension to the back to create a welcoming living area. Additions of various levels quirky corners which gives it a certain feel of imperfection is fitting with the signature of Jeroen Van Zwetselaar. In the kitchen counterspace was made extra deep. These elements of surprise are important otherwise the house could feel like a brand new build.  The design of the modern extension consists majority of large windows which can be opened up to the garden that runs all the way to the river. Burned wood as cladding of the façade give a nod to the old shipyards that you can find in the area.

“Purposely designing small imperfections gives the house its character.”

A close cooperation between Jeroen van Zwetselaar and artist Casper Faassen led to the creation of this gorgeous interior of the latter’s spacious semi-detached 1930’s house. It was neglected and in desperate need of lots of light, atmosphere and open spaces to create a pleasant atmosphere, restore it to its former glory and turned it into a wonderful family home. Combining the old and the new is an essential theme in both makers, and this comes back in the interior by showcasing old elements and reviving these by the addition of new elements with a unique touch, resulting in contrasts, which nevertheless preserves authenticity.
