Located at the top of an old dune, this estate built in 1899 was in need of an update. The  layouts of the various rooms  on the ground floor where inefficient to the needs of client.

By moving the an suite, a more intimate living room was created where evenings around the open fire and the piano are now almost a daily routine for our client.

With the move of the an suite, a central space opened up for a large dining table to have diner parties. In this space, large scale openings were created to let the light shine all the way into the central corridor which also improves the flow of the house.

One of the important points of the briefing by our client was the wish for  an area to entertain, which previously was in the dark kitchen area.

Because the client didn’t want a bigger kitchen, we extended the it into the light filled room next to it, by using a bar extension.

Now the entertaining happens around the bar and the built in seating area which is now also a favorite hangout spot for the kids.

"The souterrain has become a beacon of peace and quiet"

At the basement level, a wellness and gym was created. An old and dilapidated pool was demolished and swapped for a light filled basin with views from the dunes into an old forest.

With the surprise find of vaulted brick ceilings, the colour palette was altered and the combination of warm walnut and diffuse light make it into a welcoming space.
